Shawn Mendes was born on August 8, 1998 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In June 2014 he signed and released his first single “Life of the Party”. He is the youngest artist to compose his own debut album.
Mendes is making history at the SOCAN. The SOCAN which was delayed this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic was held virtually for the first time. The SOCAN Awards, was originally set for March 30.

Mendes picked up the international song award as well as two pop music prizes for his hits “Senorita” and “If I Can’t Have You.”
He rounded up his wins with a songwriter of the year and got the International Achievement Award and performer category.
