It is slightly over a week George Floyd died after a knee was pressed on the neck and back by police officers. The four officers associated with this murder, were initially fired. Four days later, the Officer who was seen on the neck of Floyd , Chauvin, was arrested and charged with third degree murder.
Floyds death sparked protests all across the USA. The riots in different cities in the US have been persistent for days. We have seen curfews imposed in different cities across the USA. But these curfews have not respected these. The people are angry. People want justice for racial injustice and deaths. #BlackLivesMatter .
The protests have continued in other parts of the world. This issue of racism is not for some but all nations have to come together and find a lasting solution to this issue.
Today, Keith Ellison, the AG of Minnesota provided some updates on the issue. During his afternoon briefing, Keith Ellison said, that the charges against former officer Chauvin have been moved from third to second degree murder.
He also said the other three officers who were watching Chauvin, have been issued warrants. They are, A. Kueng, Tou Thao, and Thomas Lane. They are charged with aiding and abiding in the second offense.
What happened to Mr Floyd and his family are beyond tragic.
Does increasing the charges that really solve the issue of racism? Is this going to be the process to get justice for whatever race? Do people have to come out on the streets each time someone is killed so as to ask for justice?
The many worries of the people on the streets.
-The people are hurting, in addition, some old wounds have been opened up.
-People are scared for the future of their children as well as their entire families.
-People are scared to be of a different race because they don’t know who to trust.
-The people are asking questions and need answers. Above all, people want a lasting solution to these racially inclined crimes.
