In a private ranch in Texas, Angela Chao’s Tesla backed up in a pond. She ‘Desperately scratched windows but…’. What really happened? unfortunately, Angela Chao was pronounced dead.

Angela had just met her friends at a guesthouse on her ranch in Texas and was driving back to her residence which was nearby. Her Tesla was put in reverse mode which plunged her into a nearby pond. She was stuck in the submerged vehicle.  Minutes later, she called one of her friends to say she had accidentally put her Tesla in reverse instead of driving forward, and the car had fallen into a pond. What really happened?

Over the next hour, various attempts were made to break the windows of her car or tow it out but Tesla’s car windows are made of laminated glass to protect occupants during crashes which made them difficult to break. By the time officials managed to bring the car ashore and get Chao out, the vehicle was full of water and she was dead.

Angela Chao, 50, was the daughter of James Si-Cheng Chao and wife Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, who immigrated to the US from China and founded the Foremost Group, a major shipping company.

Was Angela Chaos death an unfortunate accident or a default from Tesla or was it due to alcohol intoxication?
