Flags are flying at half-mast in Burundi. President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi has died at 55 years of age.
He was to be replaced in August 2020 by Evariste Ndayishimiye. President Nkurunziza was in power since 2015.
“The Government of the Republic of Burundi announces with great sadness the unexpected death of His Excellency Pierre Nkurunziza, President of the Republic of Burundi… following heart failure on June 8, 2020,”
President Nkurunziza died at the Karusi Hospital at the age of 55. President Nkurunziza suddenly took ill on sunday 7th June 2020. He was taken to hospital. His death is a result of a heart attack.
On Monday 08th of June 2020, he was pronounced dead.
President Nkurunziza’s situation got worst monday. He suffered a heart attack. The doctors did not succeed to revive him. President Nkurunziza and was pronounced dead.
The government said there would be a period of national mourning. This will be for seven days starting Tuesday June 10th 2020.
All flags will fly at half-mast in the country for seven days.
