Tataw Eta Stephen hailed from the South West Region of Cameroon. He played for various professional leagues in the country like Cammack of Kumba, Tonnerre Yaounde and Olympic Mvolye. He Equally played for the Cameroon national team as a right-back.
He then joined Japanese side Tosu Futures where many viewed him as the first African-born professional player in Japan
Eta Tataw formerly captained the Cameroon national team at the 1990 and 1994 fifa world cup editions.
He will be greatly remembered during the historical 1990 Fifa world cup where the Cameroon national team became the first african nation to reach the quarterfinals.
Tataw also captained the Indomitable Lions at the 1994 edition of the tournament in the USA where they were knocked out in the first round.
Stephen Eta Tataw was reported dead today July 31st 2020. The former football captain died at age 57 after a “protracted illness.” The Corpse of Stephen Eta Tataw is currently at the Yaounde Central Hospital.
