Jeffrey Dahmer was an American serial killer in the late 80s/early 90s who brutally took 17 lives and then ate his victims’ body parts.

Netflix has depicted this story in a fictional horrific movie the Jeffrey Dahmer Story. The series has become a smash hit for the Netflix streaming platform and guess what, some people are so obsessed with Dahmer that they dress like him for Halloween. Though many viewers are very satisfied with this series except the living relatives of the murdered victims.

The mother of Tony Hughes, one of Dahmers victims has spoken out against costumes that bear a resemblance the killer. Tony Hughes was deaf and non-vocal. He was one of the 17 victims of Dahmer. The mother of Hughes, Shirley, in a statement said,  “It’s already super triggering to see a hit Netflix series about the serial killer, much less folks dressing like the killer.”

In 1992, Dahmer was sentenced to life in prison and in 1994, but was beaten to death while in prison.

Even in death, this must be very painful for families to see people revive these painful memories. Shirley also told TMZ, “It hurts for Netflix and all the online stores to profit off her son’s death, while none of the victims’ families have seen a dime. She feels all the eBay ads should be taken down … or at the very least, give the profits to the families.” Shirley also went on to say, Dahmer was pure evil and doesn’t understand how the folks who choose to dress like him can sleep at night.

Due to the backlash, mega stores have resolved not to carry these Dahmer costumes. But unfortunately, these costumes can easily be found online websites for items like blonde wigs, shirts and wire-rimmed glasses.
