Two of your biggest stars opened the American Music Awards Sunday night. Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes who recently released their new song together “Monster” lit the stage. The performance marked a return to the AMA stage for Justin who hasn’t performed at the awards show for four years.
Justin Bieber played two of his hits Lonely and Holy to open the AMA before being joined on stage by his fellow Canadian Shawn Mendes where they performed their first live performance of their new song “Monster” while maintaining some social distancing between them.
The chemistry between the two stars was electric. But Mendes wasn’t done performing for the evening. Later in the broadcast, he returned to the stage to perform a stirring live version of his new solo hit, “Wonder”.
The AMA was held live on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, though some portions were prerecorded. This event was hosted by Taraji P. Henson.
Those present in the theater were socially distanced and comprised of members of the same household. They were also wearing masks and had been tested for covis-19 prior to the show.
